Rhinoplasty to correct a deviated nasal septum

Careful evaluation of the nasal structure has to be done when nose surgery is done to improve an obstructed airway as they relates to airflow and breathing.

Deviated nasal septum, one of the most common causes of breathing impairment, can be achieved by adjusting the nasal structure to produce better alignment.

  • Rhinoplasty candidates

You can be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if:

    • Your facial growth is complete, physically healthy, don't have smoking habits and lastly, but important one is to have a positive outlook and realistic goals in mind for the improvement of your appearance.
  • Rhinoplasty recovery

During your rhinoplasty recovery, to protect the new structures during initial healing, a packing will likely be placed inside your nose and bandages placed on the outside to support.

While the initial swelling may take a few weeks to subside, it may take up to a year to fully refine your new nasal contour.

Swelling may come and go and worsen in the morning during the first year following your rhinoplasty surgery.

The specific instructions you may be given may include:

    • Instructions to care of  the surgical site
    • To aid healing and reduce the potential for infection you will be given medications to apply or take orally.
    • Specific instructions to look for at the surgical site or in your general health
    • Your next follow up date with your Plastic surgeon.

Make sure to ask your Plastic surgeon specific questions regarding your recovery period:

    • Will I have dressings/bandages after surgery?
    • When will they be removed?
    • Are stitches removed? When?
    • What medication will I be given or prescribed after surgery?
    • When can I resume normal activity and exercise?
    • When do I return for follow-up care?

It may take up to a year to fully refine your new nasal contour. During this period gradual changes in the appearance of your nose as it refines to a more permanent outcome may be noticed.

As one ages, it is natural to have some gradual changes to your face including your nose. But most of your improvement should be relatively permanent.

To extend the results of your new appearance a healthy lifestyle and life-long sun protection is required .
